WHY LIVE MEETINGS AND EVENTS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
Every couple of years another technology trend emerges that immediately has pundits debating the possibility that it will bring an end to the live meetings and events business. As is usually the case though, we see things like video conferencing, web streaming, etc enhancing versus replacing live meetings and events. Its almost as if a force were in play that keeps us seeking that contact.
As it turns out, in-person meetings are good for your health!
There’s a recent study performed by Developmental Psychologist Susan Pinker; wherein she examines the physiological and psychological impact of in-person interaction. Susan wrote a great book titled; “The Village Effect: How Face-to-Face Contact Can Make Us Healthier and Happier” in which she has done an excellent job of defining the actual chemical changes that occur with live interaction and how those chemicals lead to a healthier existence.
Here’s a quote from Susan’s outstanding TED talk :
“So simply making eye contact with somebody, shaking hands, giving somebody a high-five is enough to release oxytocin, which increases your level of trust and it lowers your cortisol levels. So it lowers your stress. And dopamine is generated, which gives us a little high and it kills pain. It’s like a naturally produced morphine.”
We all know that a team with a positive mindset who feels good about their environment are more productive and creative. So when the next great idea comes along and people are pondering whether it will replace live meetings and events ask them a simple question – why replace something that’s good for business?
